Freshwater Pearl Necklace | Gold Electroplated Pearl Drop Pendant | Tulip Toggle Clasp | Handmade Bridal Necklace
A single luminous drop, suspended from a string of gathered pearls — quiet elegance with a flash of gold at its heart.
A strand of genuine potato pearls, approximately 7mm, glows with that soft, organic lustre only real pearls can produce — each one slightly irregular, slightly individual, strung together on fine silk thread. At the front, a gold plated bail suspends a striking electroplated freshwater pearl drop, its teardrop pearl half-cloaked in a hammered gold casing that catches the light beautifully. The whole thing fastens with a gold plated toggle clasp in a delicate tulip design — a lovely finishing detail that turns even the clasp into a feature. 17.5 inches in length.
The details:
- 🤍 Genuine potato pearls, approx 7mm, strung on silk thread
- 🥇 Gold plated bail
- 💧 Electroplated freshwater pearl drop pendant, 31mm from the bail
- 🌷 Gold plated toggle clasp, tulip design
- 📏 17.5 inches in length
- ✨ Handmade — every pearl individually selected and strung
What are Potato Pearls?
Potato pearls are freshwater pearls with a rounded, slightly irregular shape — plumper and more organic than a perfectly spherical pearl, hence the name. They form without a bead nucleus at their centre, so rather than growing around a small round starting point the way many pearls do, the nacre builds up freely into a naturally rounded, gently flattened form. That means each one is solid nacre all the way through, genuinely durable, and gently irregular in the most flattering way — no two are ever quite identical.
What is Electroplating?
The gold casing on the pendant pearl is created through electroplating — a process where a thin, even layer of gold is deposited onto part of the pearl's surface using an electrical current. The result is a striking contrast piece: the pearl's natural, organic lustre on one side, and polished gold shine on the other, all in a single bead.
The perfect bridal necklace — timeless enough for a wedding day, versatile enough to wear for years afterwards. Equally lovely as a gift for a milestone birthday, an anniversary, or simply as something beautiful to treasure.
Caring for your necklace:
Pearls are nature's gems and deserve a little extra tenderness:
- 🚿 Keep them dry — remove before swimming, bathing, or cleansing your face
- 🧴 Last on, first off — apply perfume, hairspray, and makeup before putting your necklace on
- 😴 Take it off before bed — protects both the pearls and the delicate pendant
- 🫧 Clean gently — wipe with a very soft barely-damp cloth; never soak pearls
- 📦 Store separately — keep in a soft pouch or lined jewellery box
- 🌬️ Let them breathe — avoid airtight containers for long-term storage
- 🌷 Care for the clasp — buff gently with a soft dry cloth to keep the tulip detail bright
Each necklace is handmade and individually strung — the natural variation in shape and lustre across the pearls means your necklace is entirely and beautifully your own.
